Freezing me inside with all the what-ifs,
Might-have-beens, and should-haves.
The icy wind of regret would knock me off my feet
If I did not firmly grasp Your hand, Father God, offering
The warmth of Your love, mercy, and forgiveness.
My Shepherd sweet
Meets all my need,
In pastures green,
By quiet stream… Always.
He heals my soul,
Keeps my path whole,
All for the sake
Of His great name… Always.
Though death draw near,
I will not fear,
For You’re my guide,
Right by my side… Always.
Your staff and rod
Give strength, O God!
Provisions flow
Before my foe… Always.
Oil soaks my head.
Your blessings spread,
My cup to fill
To over spill… Always.
Your goodness and
Your mercy stand…
No matter where,
They’ll meet me there… Always.
And I’ll exist,
In You subsist,
Your secret place,
Your house of grace… Always.
Fingers of the morning sun pierce the clouds,
Like Your hand extended over the landscape,
Hovering above us all as sweet reminder of
Your goodness, Lord…
Your mercy, Lord…
Your continual grace that allows us to
Begin each new day with Your breath of life.
The deeply blue-gray clouds outlined
With golden filaments of light
Starkly contrasts pale blue-white sky
Like the wounded world against the healing heavens…
All held together in Your palm.
For all the silly things I do in this life—
Things that make me feel foolish or stupid—
You offer Your graceful arms
Like a mom to a small child.
You comfort me.
You remind me of
Your eternal perspective and infinite wisdom.
If I could just remember to ask You,
Maybe I wouldn’t make so many mistakes.
Still, You pick me up, love on me,
Set my feet on Your path again, and
With a disciplinary swat to my rear,
You help me remember the lesson.
…And I… I’m sure
I shall do other silly things as I grow in You,
But by Your mercy, I’ll learn each lesson
(Even if it’s more than once)
Till everything is done and
I can stand before Your throne,
Covered by Your grace,
Grown-up in Your love.
The splendor of Your holiness
Is like a newborn star,
Whose brilliance light the universe,
Whose beauty shines so far.
The glory man cannot embrace
Displays Your greatness, hides Your face.
I pray, O Lord, that I would be
Your light of hope for men
That all who come could only see
Your grace, Your love for them.
Exemplify Your mercy, Lord,
Redeeming lives with every word.
Holy Spirit, breathe new power.
Renew my passion for
Your people in this very hour.
Please, call us all toward more.
And God, please, multiply Your life
For everyone who seeks Your light.
Whence cometh Mercy, poured on all she meets,
When Judgment stands against her sweet travail.
Whence cometh she whose strength is seen as weak,
To triumph yet, and through that power prevail.
For Mercy triumphs over Judgment
Each and every time her grace is called;
And Mercy triumphs over Judgment
For at the feet of Jesus, Judgment falls.
According to the words of Christ, in letters printed red,
We cannot call Him, “Lord, unless we do what He has said.
So heed His warning, build on rock, and stand strong in the flood,
Or choose your own way and you’ll find you’ve built on sand instead.
If we will take the narrow road and follow God’s commands,
He guarantees eternity for those who take a stand.
Crowds of people think that God’s great mercy will prevail,
But Jesus paid the price that perfect goodness still demands.
For many who claim Jesus’ name, the words are meaningless.
When what “seems right depends on us, no wonder we’re a mess.
Remember now, while there’s still time, to truly make Him Lord,
His heart of love keeps calling us to seek His holiness.
It’s trusting in His sacrifice that helps us find His light,
Though many times, we lose our way or stumble in the night.
This road that we must travel leaves us dusty, tired, and worn,
But grace still leads us home when we resolve to do what’s right.
(Luke 6:46-49)
